Oliver Petersen and Louis Thastum are set to square off in a compelling 73 kg. catchweight bout next Saturday. This matchup comes after Thastum called for the fight, bringing together two of the most talented amateur prospects on the Danish MMA scene. Petersen moves up from lightweight, while Thastum comes down from welterweight for a meeting that feels evenly balanced – both physically and stylistically. While there appears to be little bad blood, competitive pride will surely be involved after Thastum suggested Petersen is not the toughest opponent he has faced.
Despite being just 19 years old, Petersen already carries significant experience for his age. Training out of Great Danes Fight Club in Odense, Denmark, under the tutelage of Danish MMA legend Martin Kampmann, the former Danish junior Muay Thai champion has built momentum, winning nine of his last eleven amateur contests while remaining unbeaten in the Airtox Dominance cage, where his aggressive, finish-hunting style has stood out. He represented Denmark at the 2025 IMMAF World Championships, competing despite a meniscus tear suffered during the tournament before returning to action earlier this year.
While dangerous on the feet with his sharp knees, Petersen has increasingly leaned on his grappling in recent outings. His control on the mat – particularly from the back – has become one of his strongest weapons, with submissions often following once he settles into position. His most memorable victory over Omar Rami, where he secured a rear-naked choke despite being bitten during the fight, only reinforced his reputation for composure and persistence under pressure.
Standing opposite Petersen is undefeated Louis Thastum, a 24-year-old striking specialist with serious momentum and obvious finishing ability. Representing Burnell MMA in Søborg, Denmark – home to several of the country’s top professional fighters – he has a perfect amateur MMA record with all three of his Airtox Dominance victories coming by knockout. Backed by a strong Muay Thai background, he shares many of the same qualities as his main sparring partner, regional force Janus Olsen. Thastum typically moves forward, applying heavy pressure from the opening bell. He is very difficult to tie up or control for long stretches, and his sharp, powerful hands make him extremely dangerous at all times.
Petersen will likely look to close the distance, work into clinch exchanges and eventually bring the fight to the ground, where his control and submission game can be suffocating. Meanwhile, Thastum will likely aim to keep the fight standing, where his natural size and striking ability could become overwhelming. One fighter brings proven experience, composure, and grappling depth, whereas the other brings physicality, momentum, and knockout power. That tension is what makes this one of the most intriguing matchups Danish MMA has seen in recent years.
